Every book carries a voice, every story preserve memory, and every reader represents a future generation. For decades, women have played powerful roles in shaping the book ecosystem — writing stories, publishing knowledge, teaching children, preserving culture, and creating spaces where communities learn and grow. Yet many women who transform the literary and education landscape remain unseen and unrecognized. The Women Book Awards exist to change that. We celebrate women whose creativity, leadership, and commitment are strengthening Rwanda’s knowledge economy and inspiring the next generation of storytellers.
The Women Book Awards was born from a vision to recognise and celebrate the women whose creativity, leadership, and dedication are shaping Rwanda’s and Africa’s literary ecosystem.
Across the continent, women are writing stories, publishing knowledge, nurturing young readers, preserving cultural heritage, and building pathways for future generations. Yet many of these contributions remain unseen and under-recognised.
The Women Book Awards exists to change that.
More than a literary awards ceremony, it is a platform for visibility, connection, and inspiration — bringing together authors, publishers, booksellers, educators, and literacy champions who are transforming books into tools for learning, identity, and social progress.
Through recognition, collaboration, and celebration, the Women Book Awards amplify women’s voices and strengthen literature's role in shaping a more knowledgeable and empowered society.
The mission of the Women Book Awards is to recognise, celebrate, and amplify the contributions of women who are shaping the world of books, knowledge, and learning.
Our vision is simple: A future where women’s ideas, stories, and knowledge shape society.
Women continue to face barriers in publishing and literary recognition. The Women Book Awards address this gap by empowering women, amplifying their contributions, and increasing their visibility across the literary landscape. By celebrating their achievements, the awards inspire the next generation of authors, publishers, and literacy advocates, while contributing to a more inclusive and representative book ecosystem.
The Women Book Awards is an initiative of Arise Education, created to strengthen Rwanda’s publishing and literacy ecosystem and beyond. Beyond celebrating achievements, the awards create visibility, networks, mentorship opportunities, and partnerships that empower women to thrive across writing, publishing, education, and innovation.
